Kurakake Haruto (倉掛 春人くらかけ はると), also known as Kraken (クラーケン, Kuraaken), was a member of Ogun Union's Top Brass and was part of Ogun Tetsuma's close allies. He's a perverted, mysoginistic man who sees all women as sexual objects to his eyes. He was also a zegenshi, a man who sold women for prostitution by force.

Appearance[]

Kraken had somewhat dark medium length hair and wears a patterned tank top and military camouflage pants. Ogun Tetsuma claims that Kraken has "woman-like titties". His body's musculature is well defined an veiny due to the use of steroids, with noticeable upper torso muscles and abdominals seen through his tank top.

During his reappearance, his tank top is plain instead of patterned. He would later become bald, after ripping his hair in anger during his fight against Sakura. He would also display a very eerie and inhumane facial expression when feeling desperate, with veins protruding from his head and body.

During the Roda de Rua Saga, Kraken had to wear a wig with the same hairstyle in order to hide his baldness.

Personality[]

Kraken has a large ego akin to a pretentious douchebag, that is only getting bigger, according to Oshyun. This is shown when he claims he is the one who has earned the most money for Ogun Union. Kraken is also a big flirt; he tried getting with a high school girl, even though she was much younger than him and he was on duty to find Sanjou Ichiri. But he only sees women as tools, weaklings and "baby-making machines" and would even gloat the fact he killed over 50 women in his life by drowning them. He would take a sadistic pleasure to drown women underwater, seeing them unable to fight back and dying in a slow death is something he enjoys to watch and would tend to gloat about it during his fights with Yukina and Sakura.

Kraken was willing to take steroids to become stronger, even if this pissed off Tetsuma. It can also hints Kraken is not willing to do intense training to develop his muscle strength and wants to go into "a simpler and easier path", despite the potential side effects. This also means he will do anything to become stronger, even if this kills him.

Kraken can become angry if a woman fights back and surpasses his expectations but if a woman like Sakura manages surpass him in strength, he will enter into a state of fear and can retreat like a coward but will become desperate to fight back with everything he can. He can also become extremely infuriated if a man physically touches him, showing an intense aversion against other men.

Past & Youth[]

Kurakake's past is a mystery but it is possible he was a criminal ever since he was young and grew up as a hangure for the rest of his life. Kurakake has learned Sambo at some point in his life and would later use steroids to enhance his strength. It is unknown when he started his job as a zegenshi, although he doesn't seemed to mentioned this kind of job to his peers or his superior, Tetsuma. Throughout his life, he has killed over 50 women by drowning them with his brutal strength.

Ogun Union Saga[]

Hayatomo High School Festival Arc[]

Kurakake shows up at Sanjou Ichiri's high school festival in order to capture her, which was an order by Obe Nobunari. Kraken becomes side-tracked though and tries to flirt with a high school student, although another student barges in and indicates flirting is prohibited in this school. But the student touched Kraken's shoulder, which he then shows his intense dislike on being touched by other men and the student went to calm down Kraken and challenged him to arm wrestle against Kaneyama Ryuu. The challenge also allowed money betting, with the maximum betting was 5,000¥ but Kraken bet a massive load of money and effortlessly defeats the sumo wrestler, much to Oshyun's dismay as she tells him to stop fooling around, and he goes along her to find Ichiri in the school's gymnasium along with other Top Brass. Shuma Rei was present during the event and when the Top Brass entered and hold hostages the students inside the gymnasium, Kenyuu would start to tell a horrendous joke and announce their plan on finding a "high school capoeira girl". Rei stepped on the stage, asking are they looking to a high school girl who practices capoeira. Kenyuu had the idea of beating Rei would teach her a lesson and make the students not having a second thought and went to attack Rei with the microphone stand, which Rei deduced he is a kenjutsu/kendō practioner due to his combat stance. Kenyuu fails to notice the stand was tied with the wire and falls on his back, only to be swiftly defeated by a powerful kick from Rei. Oshyun decided to fight Rei and mostly overwhelmed the high school student on their first bout, although she would have been injured if Kurakake didn't intervened: he saved her by pushing her aside, narrowly dodging Rei's incoming kick. Ignoring Shyun's angry ranting, Kraken went to asked Rei her name, the latter claims she is Sanjou Ichiri and gets captured by the union's Top Brass.

Afterwards when Kraken meets up with Tetsuma, Tetsuma notices that Kraken has been taking drugs and questioned him on why he used such substances. Kurakake answered it is not a big deal, claiming steroids are not a real drug and boasted about being the one who earned the most money for the organization, so he has the right to do whatever he wants to do to himself. Tetsuma knows very well Kraken has a good point, though he decided to pulverized him with a punch and warned the other Top Brass he doesn't forbid using/selling drugs as long he doesn't sees or know it. Tetsuma then proceed to brutally stomps an already defeated Kraken on the head.

It is unknown what happened to Kurakake after this incident, though it is obvious he grew a dislike on his leader and decided to ditch sides when Obe started rise in power in order to overthrow Tetsuma, as well possibly due to Obe offering better pay jobs.

Athletic Park War Story Arc[]

Kraken would later show up during the war-like event, it was revealed he switched sides and joined Obe's throwing a surprise attack on Aizome Yukina and kidnap Sanjou Ichiri (who was going through a severe mental breakdown), a direct order from Obe himself but Kraken hinted he had other plans for Ichiri. Don Kishibe and another henchman from Team Obe arrived to capture Ichiri as well but Kraken told them to not touch her and Don retaliated by flipping the bird to him and claims Kraken he can't order around; while at the same time Icchi risen up and suddenly starts to cry uncontrollably which annoyed both Don and his henchman. The henchman, visibly annoyed, decided to attack her but easily counter-attacked him by using capoeira techniques and leaped toward Don with a flying knee strike and went back at her mental breakdown, laying down on the dirt. Yukina was worried about Ichiri and became was distracted as a result, which gave Kraken the opportunity to trip her underwater and perform an armbar, while Yukina's face is below the water's depths.

Roda de Rua Saga[]

Kraken surprisingly appeared once again during a secret meeting at the Sport Amusement's bowling lounge alongside Obe, a representative of the yakuza group Mitsuo-gumi with his bodyguard and a tied up thug, completely naked. Despite having serious injuries on his genitals caused by Sakura, he seemingly recovered and doesn't displayed any drawbacks or weaknesses. According to the representative, the unnamed thug has stolen firearms from Mitsuo-gumi and attempted to sell the weapons to the Ogun Union but was quickly apprehended. The representative claims Mitsuashi agreed on the death of the thug, additionally stating the yakuza group has a great respect to the union and nothing of a feud will happen between the two groups, though Obe plans to absorb Mitsuo-gumi sooner or later. Meanwhile, Kraken was having a sadistic pleasure to scare the thug by throwing randomly some bowling balls, though narrowly landing them on the thug's head.

Surpisingly, new invitees arrived to the scene and started to play bowling next to hangure and the yakuza: members of the Lança Mortal have managed to pinpoint and found the secret location's rendez-vous. The small group consists of Gira Iantha, her son Legba, followed with Haro and Luta. The bodyguard walked to them, asking how they managed to enter the location despite the union managed to own the entire building, only for him to be obliterate by brutal punch from Luta, remaining unconscious. The Lança Mortal group suddenly engaged into throwing bowling balls, such impacts would kill a regular human and destroyed the surrounding furnitures with ease but missed the hangures and the yakuza since they dodged at the least minute. Obe, Kraken and the representative retaliated by throwing bowling balls, only Kraken's bowling ball was impressive due to his strength (meaning Obe and the representative have the strength of a normal man). Luta dodged Kraken's bowling ball and was impressed on how muscular he was, only to throw a fast bowling ball at Kraken. Despite catching the bowling ball, Kraken wasn't able to stop the throw's full force and landed square on his chest, injuring him. He tried to pretend it wasn't such a big deal, though Haro knew Kraken was reeling in pain and pointed out his obvious bravado.

Meanwhile, Obe noticed how the Brazilian gang would likely aim at Kraken due to being the bigger threat of the hangures; he whispered to Ichijou his new plan: as soon the Brazilian gang will throw their bowling balls at Kraken, both him and the yakuza will dash at their handguns they left on the floor. Just as planned, Obe and Ichijou executed their move by sprinting toward their handguns while Kraken is being targeted, until Legba leaped and landed his feet on the pistols to put a stop on Obe's plan. The hangure and yakuza did not hesitated to resort on physical violence on the young capoeirista, while Iantha calmly told Legba to eliminate both men on the spot. Legba broke Obe's right forearm and possibly fractured Ichijou's jaw with kicks only, then proceeds to simultaneously hold three bowling balls (a bowling ball for each hands and uses his toes to grab the third ball) and brutally defeats Obe and Ichijou in a flash, bludgeoning their faces and leaving them for death.

Kraken, who witnessed the entire moment of seeing his leader and the representative of Mitsuo-gumi violently obliterated by a young capoeirista, started to experience real doubts and questioning on his eventual fate but not before he removed his wig and exclaim in a mix of anger and fear that he wished to quit his job and live a normal life. His yelling alerted Iantha and Haro, who were checking on the firearms of Obe and Ichijou. In his frustration, he throws his wig at them and starts sprinting but Haro shot a bullet in Kraken's left buttock; the latter started to panic in pain. While panicking, Gira ordered Luta to go after Kraken and beat him down; later his bloodily battered body was shown holding a cellphone to possibly call for aid but seemingly to no avail. Although it was initially unknown if he managed to survive, Wakagashira Mitsuashi and his subordinates came in to inspect the location and found Kraken's pummeled body, with one of the henchmen confirming Kurakake is indeed dead.

Although his final act was seemingly in vain, it is mostly likely possible Kurakake was the one who called for the arrival of Ogun Union's former strongest members: the strongest hangure, Ogun Tetsuma and the master brawler, Mizonoguchi Harumi, to come for back up and help Obe and Ichijou to successfully turn the tide in their favor. Kraken's desperate act has most likely come to fruition as both Tetsuma and Harumi have defeated Haro and Luta respectively.

Kraken boasts often he is among the most important members of the Ogun Union, specifically he was part of the organization's Top Brass which are the most strongest members of the union. Although his achievements are unknown, he claims he worked and earned the most money, which also strengthen the union's force. What makes him powerful is his fighting style mixed with inhumane drugged strength and tactical deceptions.

Mental Abilities[]

Despite having a large ego, Kraken demonstrated he is a cunning fighter and is aware of the environment around him that he can uses against his opponent: an example when he fought Yukina, he dragged her in the water as a way to slow her kicks, delaying her speed so he can catch her leg and throw her underwater. Haruto would also display deceiving tactics during his fight against Sakura, using a throwing technique to bait her only to reveal he would use an armbar to break her arm.

Physical Abilities[]

He mainly use steroids as a mean to gain more physical strength. His Sambo being mixed with his enhanced strength gives him the upper hand in most fights: an example is when he defeated a high schooler who was prominent in sumo wrestling, in an one-sided arm wrestling match. Even though he was mostly at disadvantages against Sakura's greater strength, he still managed to hold his own and fought back plans; the only advantages he possessed was a different set of techniques, the environment and possessing more endurance than Sakura, depleting less his stamina.

Another feat is how he was capable to throw a bowling ball with relative ease like regular soccer ball ( the average weight for a competitive bowling ball is around 16 pounds, which approximately 7.3 kg) and could even use a bowling ball to throw it like a dodgeball, potentially lethal for regular humans. Kraken was also able to take a bowling ball thrown in his chest by Haro, whose strength is hinted to be greater than him (Kraken was obviously injured from such monstrous throw).

Fighting Style[]

Kraken's fighting style is Sambo and appears to be an expert in the martial art but he displayed few techniques during his fights. Sambo is a martial art that combines Wrestling, Judo, Kickboxing, Jūjutsu and Boxing but Kraken seems to focus only in the throws and arm lock techniques, never displayed any forms of striking. This hints he probably knows the sport version of Sambo, which consists of various takedowns and locking techniques.

Techniques[]

  • Arm Bar: Used against Yukina, initially he was reluctant to break her arm and only used the technique to hold her body underwater but was willing to break her arm after she tried to fought back.
  • Tomoe-nage (巴投) : Kraken attempted to use the technique but he wasn't aiming for the throw: he anticipated Sakura would tried to suppress the throwing the technique and used Tomoe-nage to bait her so he can use an armbar. But she effortlessly shrugged off Kraken's armbar by lifting him and throwing him down.
  • Rolling Kneebar: Used the technique on Sakura in order to trip her down and perform a leglock so he can break her left leg's ligament, but Sakura grabbed Kraken's feet and placed her right foot on his buttocks to negate the technique to be completed. Then she would use her right foot to push Kraken away.
  • Rear-Naked Choke: A technique commonly used in wrestling sports such as Sambo. Kraken desperately used the technique against Sakura when he dragged her in the water. The technique's effectiveness is great as it prevents the opponent to run away and strangles them but Kraken opted to drown Sakura in the waters as a sadistic way to kill her. But Sakura managed to break the choking technique by crushing his testicles.

Relationships[]

  • Sendou Ryuudai: Kraken complained about the workload that Ogun Union puts on him, and this made Ryuudai react harshly.
  • Oshyun: Kraken deeply respects Oshyun and even calls her "Number One", possibly hinting Kraken teasing her. He also saves her from getting hurt from Rei's attack, though Oshyun does not like much Kraken's behavior toward her. On all the women he encountered, Oshyun is the only one he never insulted and didn't viewed her as a tool.
  • Ogun Tetsuma: Tetsuma was aware of Kraken's aversion towards men, and had a worried expression when he realized he made Kraken uncomfortable by touching his shoulder but the latter said it's fine if it is Tetsuma. But that could be done on provoke or taunt him, as Tetsuma would ask if Kraken used steroids and Tetsuma would berate Kraken for his use on steroids to enhance his strength. After being defeated by Tetsuma, Kraken would later join Obe's side, as seen during the Athletic Park War.
  • Obe Nobunari: Kraken decided to join Obe's sides, probably due to being defeated by Tetsuma.
  • Aizome Yukina: He viewed her as a "lower human being" and considers her as a weakling and a tool just like how he sees every women. He would be impressed by Yukina's tenacity and how she tried to fought back despite the gap of strength between them.
  • Ootani Sakura: Similar with Yukina, Kraken viewed her like a weakling but quickly underestimated her as she displayed greater feats of strength mixed with her Judo experience. The more Sakura shows her strength, the more Kraken started to losing hope in his Sambo skills and steroid strength.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • He got his nickname "Kraken" because Kurakake sounds similar phonetically.
    • The manga depicts his Sambo skills akin to an octopus latching itself on it's prey, reinforcing even more his nickname.
    • Later in the manga, he also sported a tank-top with the image of an octopus deploying it's tentacles upward, once again strengthening his connection.
  • Although not mentioned, Kraken's views on women and the fact he was a zegenshi also hints he might possibly raped women for his sole wicked pleasure.
